California Wood Dust
(Culture,General)
I just received a small piece of wooden furniture, and on the back of the instruction sheet that came with it, there's a sticker with the following quote:
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including wood dust, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer.
Seriously?
So sawdust causes cancer according to the State of California. Personally, I think the government and doctors of California have been sampling a bit too much of that medical marijuana they love so much.
I've known a lot of carpenters, and I can't think of any who died due to cancer from inhaling sawdust.
I think I wrote a while back about buying an extension cord which had "California says this product causes cancer" label on it. Yeah right, if you eat the plastic.
You have to wonder how these decisions get made and who makes them. And how come no other state warns us about these carcinogenic products? Could it be that there is no actual medical threat at all? Are California doctors and officials smarter than the rest of us after all? Or is it just that they have no idea whatsoever what they're talking about?
I think the next time California decides to vote to secede from the United States, I'm going to move there just so I can vote in favor of secession.
